I drained the trans & diff refilled with diesel as a flush. Tied the clutch down and put trams in gear so it will turn as I roll the tractor. My question is will the pump turn therefore flushing it too, as the tractor moves, if it is engaged.

If you mean the hydraulic pump; it only turns when the PTO is engaged.

Yes I am referring to the hydraulic pump, the tractor doesn't run so will the hydraulic pump turn if the tractor is towed with the pto engaged?

When you drained the oil did you remove the drain plug in the PTO? If not there may be some residual oil there. There is a dam that keeps the oil from "running away" from the hyd if the tractor is going down hill or overfilling if the tractor is going uphill.
If the PTO plug was not pulled I would suggest that it be pulled and the PTO drained then check the oil level in case more oil is needed. I wish you luck with the use of diesel oil to clean. If it does not work then you will have to drain the PTO oil and remove the pump for a good cleaning. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck! Bill Long

I removed 2 plugs, 1 under the PTO and 1 above and in front of the pin hitch. Are there more? Thanks

Good Job!!
Most forget the PTO drain. There is also a small one in the bottom of the linkage of the hyd pump. Not much oil there Good Luck! Bill Long ps: Sorry I forgot it

I've got a couple gallons of diesel fuel in, the pto engaged, tractor in gear with clutch tied down, and lift lever up, so I roll it 8 or 10 ft forward and back a few times a day, until grandson comes over and he can steer while I tow him up the street. Will drain and replace with transfluid before starting.

The clutch connects the engine to the transmission for the engine to operate the tranny which runs the PTO and hydraulics thru the tranny. With the clutch disengaged, turning the wheels will turn the transmission over driving the PTO and hyd pump. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 23 Jun 2016 at 6:39am |

Not if you are running the Tranny/PTO with the engine, but if you are rolling the tractor with the tranny in gear it will. In other words, he is using the wheels to turn the transmission, without it turning the engine over. That is why he has the clutch pushed in.

Alan, if he's talking about the "foot clutch" the only "drive" that is disconnected is between the engine and the transmission. If he means the "hand clutch" then nothing in the transmission, including the pump and the engine will turn when the tractor is pushed.

The clutch is depressed and he is rolling and towing the tractor in gear.
The gears and the PTO will turn. LOL Bob

So I was rolling CA back forth today, and I noticed the lift arms were up, so placed lift lever in down position and pushed arms down, moved lift lever back to up rolled forward and back a couple of times lift arms went back up. I believe lift will work really good when I get tractor running.
