I'm looking to buy a D15 but it has a hydraulic problem. When you start up the tractor the rams automatically rise and will not come down unless you push the ball in on the remote and theres a noise in by the transmission on the left side that goes away when you push in the clutch. Is this going to be an expensive fix or can anyone tell me what they think the problem is ? Thanks in advance

I suspect the hydraulic issue could just an adjustment of the traction booster linkage. Is the noise in the transmission or torque tube? Chances are it is nothing major, but I am not there and cannot hear it.

The gentleman that has the tractor said the hyd problem and the transmission noise all happened at the same time 2 days ago when he started it up.You can feel the knocking noise on that side plate on the left side of the tranny.

What Mack said. I don't remember if the traction booster lever being all the way up will do that or not but I know if the linkage is jammed it will. The noise is probably the pump running full pressure against the checkvalve.

Thanks guys,is there a way to unjam the linkage or fix the problem? I messed with the traction booster lever and it didnt make a difference where it was positioned so I put it all the way down where he said it always was.

Sounds like a great way to get it for a LOWER price ! A dealer might want $1500 to look and fix, others will know. AFTER you buy, drain all the oil, clean the sump and pump, add fresh oil and it may work fine...if not, you'll have to open up the pump and clean the internals.
If rest of tractor is OK... I'd buy at a 'good' price. Jay |

I went over and looked at the tractor again this morning and its a 1962 series 1 model and all the external linkages are working freely.Could that big rod in front of the snap coupler have something to do with it ? Does that stick sometimes ?

I had issues with my snap coupler linkage getting stuck under my D15. I sprayed it down with WD-40, and pulled my trailer around the place a few times (The draw bar attaches to the snap coupler), and that seemed to do the trick.

Did you have to take the pan off the bottom of the pump to spray it down because everything looks to be internal ?

No, there is a big rod, and spring that is part of the snap coupler. My rod was stuck in the "Extended" position.

If traction booster linkage is adjusted right and nothing stuck, you will only feel pressure on lever at the upper two notched on lever. MACK

Mack, where is the TB linkage holding spool ? I lubed everthing up down by the TB tonight and hooked it up to my heavy disc and dragged that around thinking it would free something up but it didnt. And if that isnt it where would the pivot stuck at valve be located ?
