I just picked up my seed corn today and there is a chart on the bag with recommendations for various different planters. The closest planter to mine on the chart was a White in which it suggested use the small seed disk. Can i be safe to assume that small corn seed disk for my AC planter will work? Aren't both the White and AC disk very similar? This planter is fairly new to me so I'm still learning. Thanks for any help

Hello Winchester. I also just bought an AC planter with 78 units. My owners manual says best results are obtained by using medium round seed, but there are discs for several different seed sizes.  Look on the outside edge of your discs for a part number. If you're planting small seed, you will need the discs to be numbered either 70584901, for extra small corn seed, or 70587845, for small corn seed. Mine are 70585807, for medium rounds. I bought the planter after I bought my seed corn, and was able to return 26 bags of flats for the same variety in medium rounds. For corn, make sure you have 45 pocket discs, not 144 pocket discs - the 144s are for soybeans.
I got the above numbers from www.schmidtinc.com. They sell seed discs, pads, etc. Good luck!

I was told by a forum member that when you put the seed in a pocket that about 1/16" of it should be visible above the plate.

Re: the part numbers on the seed discs, disregard the "70" in front of the number. You should have a 6 digit number on the disc.

A seed disc that Allis didn't originally make, but they threw it into the mix later on, was one that was called small/medium. Thus, the seed pockets were sized in between the small and medium. I have found that it works for me for most all the seed I plant. If you are interested in it, I could get you the part number off of one tomorrow. They aren't cheap, though. Better en 40 bucks a piece. Darrel
