 Topic: AC 1300 Field Cultivator Sweep Size

What was the standard sweep size on the 1300 field cultivators? I have a 24' that I am going to be replacing the sweeps on. Were they all the same sweep size, front to back? Shoup has an 8" sweep for $7.00 / ea. Is this a pretty standard price? Thanks

When the 1300 fld cult was new the recommend sweep size was a four inch sweep,all the sweeps were the same size.

Thanks for the info. Would an 8" be okay on it? Heavy clay ground mostly but usually use field cultivator for light shallow tillage before planting.

we sell a lot 7 inch the main thing make sure they are 54 degress

To kill weeds I think they need to overlap. To stir dirt narrower will work, but when I tilled, I had spring weeds like wild mustard that I expected the field cultivator to cut off. And grass in some places where disking only seemed to encourage the grass to grow better.
I bought some from Shoup (www.shoupparts.com) that were only sharp on 2" of the front edge, they didn't cut weeds with the wings until I ground on them for a day. Shoup generally has good prices on sweeps, though one year the local IH dealer beat them considerably.

If you have heavy vegitation, the 1300 will choke up pretty quick, the wider the sweep the more it will clog up. On that model I would go as small as possible with the sweeps and still get weed kill. We had one and used it mainly for incorporating chemicals. It didn't like many weeds.. Leon B MO

I have bought a couple sets from Shoup for my 1300 over the years. I also used the Case IH earth metal ones for their cultivator that are 7 1/4" wide with good results, just theirs is a different angle and the Shoup one's we felt worked better. We did have to shallow the depth adjustment after switching to the Shoup ones. Shoup sweeps are 8".

Had a customer buy a set of 7 inch sweeps many years ago against my advice. He did 5 acres and came back and bought another complete set, only this time 4 inches wide. Untilled soybean ground will plug quickly with 6 or 7 inch sweeps.

The spacing on your cult should be 6" between shanks,if you go wider than 6" sweeps
you will be just overlapping the sweeps.

I forgot to mention, the larger sweeps work best in my sand ground. They are not the best in the clay loam farm I have, best thing there are narrow sweeps of 4 inches at the widest and a whole lot of them on an S tine, I think, I just don't have anything set up for that farm...yet.
