I am having some problems with the power steering on my 19. When turning the steering wheel the power steering pump will make a squealing sound, and the wheels are very hard to turn. I have checked the fluid and it was just a tad bit low, but after filling it I noticed no change. I finished stacking hay with the ole gal but it was a chore with no power steering.I have not had any problems before. The tractor does have a loader on it.
I ask for the help of all the fine AC folks here again. I thank you for your responses. Rodd |

If belt is tight, pulley not worn out on shaft, you know pump is good, take the steering valve out and replace orings and readjust valve nut. MACK

Mack,
Thanks for your reply. Give me some idea of taking the pump apart to install the o rings and how to adjust the valve. Thanks Again Rodd |

He's talking about the steering valve. It is on the left side of the tractor just behind the steering box, underneath the radiator. It is where the steering shaft goes into and there is some power steering lines connected to that steering valve that go over onto the right side of the steering box that push or pull the hyd. ram in and out, giving you the power steering. This box has some o rings inside that can go out. If you have a manual, it's easy to take out and put back together. Also, make sure that when you steer from left to right, that the steering shaft goes in and out some into that steering valve. When it does that, it allows fluid to go through the steering valve. If it's not going in and out, then that might be your problem. If the steering valve is moving back and forth then the problem may be in the steering valve as the orings if shot are letting oil pass by and pressure is not building up and hence you have no power steering. the orings are cheap and it's pretty easy to tear out and put back together. I brazed a fittting onto one of the power steering lines so I could hook up a pressure guage and make sure that my pump was working. I went through all this on my D19, and I might not be the best at explaining it but I have been in there so I understand it. But listen to what Mack is saying. He really knows what's going on with all these AC tractors.

Let's start with the simple....make sure the power steering belt is in good condition and tight. The use the loader to raise the front wheels off of the ground and grease the spindles until there's grease coming out top and bottom.
