I have a 1969 180 Diesel. I have had issues with it sputtering then eventually shutting down. I have plenty of Diesel, sediment bowl is clean, I try to bleed it with the hand pump, but it takes forever, when I finally get diesel flowing out of the the hole on top of the filter housing, it will start up, run for a minute or so, then it stops again. Open the hole of top of the filter housing, start pumping with hand pump, and it seems to have air again. Help?

Remove the sediment bowl again and turn on the petcock all the way. There should be TWO streams of fuel gushing from the center of the base. If there is only one stream straight down, the base if plugged with debris and needs to be removed and cleaned at the inlet.

I had the same problem on my 185. I messed with it for a month, draining, bleeding etc. Turns out it was the strainer/filter in the sediment bowl. It looked ok but fuel wouldn't go through it. 2 bucks later and it runs great and keeps on running.
