hey guys Im putting all new sickles in my mower and I used the new style bolts instead of rivets inside the bar. The guards I have are to small with the new bolts. is there another style guard i could put in there that would clear the bolt and nut on the sickle bar. dad thought maybe a john deere guard would give enough clearence. any suggestions?? thanks blake

I remember Dad doing this on one of the haybines sickle bars. We had to put all new hold downs in it to clear the bolts. The new ones had a taller arch over the sickle bar to allow the bolt ends to clear. There wasn't a problem with the guards. Haybine was a NH and they stocked the taller hold downs for those wanting to use bolts instead of rivets for sickle sections.

When I converted my 82S over to bolts some of the original holddowns would work with a "wee" bit of grinding on the nuts.
Those where the knifehead are would not work at all.  I was able to pick up some "high-clearance" holddowns from tractor supply.
