Just getting my new-to-me D17 up and running after a clutch replacement. What oil or fluid is used in the factory power steering system?  I can find no info in the shop manual other than the amount. My D19 manual specifies auto trans type 'A' for the power steering.  Is the D17 the same?

The power steering AND hydraulic systems were originally to use Dexron Type "A". What most tractors have used since the late 1960's (with great success) is modern day Universal Hydraulic fluid (AGCO 821XL...John Deere HyGard....IH Hy-Tran etc, etc). Allis-Chalmers never re-wrote the owners manuals for these old tractors, but this newer oil is 100% acceptable. This oil is what was used in all 170-180-190's etc which came out in 1967-1967-1964.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case but thought I would check. I have that on hand as that is what is in the rest of the systems.
