Ok, I hate to post on this issue again, but I am stumped.  My WD45 still is having a very difficult time starting.  However, once started, it runs beautifully.  I put on a brand new Zenith carb.  Seems that the float works ok.  However, when I crank it I eventually get gas running out of the air inlet.  When I posted before two ideas were manifold gaskets and possibly a stuck intake valve.  Put on new gaskets and all cylinders show good compression.

It just seems like it is not sucking gas into the cylinders.  However, once it does start there is enough suction to operate.  I looked at the manifold, but am wondering if there is a hole somewhere.  I may have to pull it all apart again and look very closely.  Any other ideas would be appreciated very much.  Gotta get this thing running so I can spray my grapes.

With it running at idle , take and spray WD40 or either around or along manifold.
If the engine picks up speed or changes sound , you have found a place where leak is .

Have you checked cylinder compression? You might put oil in each cylinder before attempting to start and see if it helps. Valves? Likely  it if it runs well after it starts.

Another test is leak-down , using a air fitting brazed into old spark plug , add compressed air to each cylinder and listen for leakage at oil breather , intake and exhaust openings, air at any place denotes leakage and amount tells how or what is bad.

Compression is good on all cylinders.

Check for a manifold leak as suggested above (carb cleaner, brake cleaner also work good; don't like spraying ether around.
Was the venturi in the carb installed in the correct position? Easy enough to re-install it upside down. Also, the passages in the carb can be difficult to clean out thoroughly...and plug up quickly if the screen in the sediment bowl is missing.

Is it a 6 or 12v system? If it is a 6V, the starter may be pulling enough amps that there nothing left for the points.  MACK

Had one mechanic use a propane torch to find leaks also, not lit but just turn on the gas and move along the manifold and around areas of suspected leaks , might be neater and less danger than either also.

Make sure the advance mechanism in the distributor is not stuck.  Tried to hand crank one that was stuck in the advance position.  Painful just to relive the memory.
