What is the model # of the tiller? Is this a vertical or horizontal shaft engine that drives the tiller? Most of these tillers had a pulley on the camshaft that ran the reverse. Could be you have the shaft coming out the engine pan and your missing the pulley. Could be a later model tiller that uses a series of idler pulleys to ride the crank pulley and drive the reverse.

A pic of it would help out a lot.
Yea, I can fix that.....

Sounds like a Simplicity tiller I recently traded off. The reverse belt routes with the flat side up around the idler above the engine pulley. When you engage reverse the idler assembly moves  over and forces the V of the belt into the engine pulley secound groove, driving the tine pulley backwards. I hope this helps cause now I'm confussed.

I have one of these also and it runs like a top.  It's a 5hp.  What size is your engine?
