D 19 Diesel freeze plug leaking question

My D 19 Turbo Diesel is starting to leak out of the freeze plug behind the water pump.I am using this tractor about 6 hrs on Sat for parade rides and show for a local charity. I was going to add black pepper in the rad and unlock the filler cap on the rad. so there is not much pressure. Any other suggestions? I should be fine running that this way or any other ideas.

Personally I would check it out. Remember a few hours labor and a couple dollars in parts are alot cheaper then overhaulin an engine. Just so ya know i have seen freeze plugs rust out from the inside out.

Loosening the cap will reduce the pressure but will allow the water to push out there instead of the hole. No big gain as it will eventually run the water level down. If a patch is needed to get by I'd select a good brand of sealant that will react properly with the applied heat and seal off the hole until your repair time allows for it to be done properly. I'd stay away from home remedies like pepper. As said above, to rebuild this engine would be costly over a 2.00 plug.......

If it is just a small leak, i.e. not a stream, then I would loosen the cap drain a little off, and run her.  Parade work, wont even be known by that engine.  Keep the RPMs down, and the load down.  
Hopefully the temp gauge works good, and you can keep an eye on her, but as long as you aren't running her down the road for miles, or pulling 12,000 4-Hs up Mount Everest, you will be fine.

Check the coolant level often, and keep it right at the top of the cooling tubes, i.e the bottom of the top tank, that way if you do get her a bit warm, she won't puke all over everything, since the cap is loose.
