Who designed the rats nest gauge cluster on the 170/175 tractors?  Why did they put the ignition switch in the worst place possible?  Couldn't they find a better place for the battery? Why did they use the stupid clips to hold on the top  cover when a drilled hole and cotter key is much easier to remove? Anyhow, got the ignition switch changed and all is well again......

I will have to agree. I put my battery  on a bracket  attached to the bolts on where the pulley would be. Not many choices with a loader on it.

I agree also.  Not the best design but that battery will never escape or fall out that's for sure.  You can always remove the side shields like most of them I see.  I think there's a good market for them. Big smile

I agree with you Eldon, the 175 is not the easiest tractor to work on.  In my opinion the D series was much better in this respect.

Eldon, you need to change the water pump on my Cat forklift. You would really appreciate the old 170 then. It is a real job. Tracy Martin

Eldon, Eldon....you've been working on those Sweet 175 / 170's....again?
I've got to get you a picture.....of my (NEW to me) CAB I got from you.  John and I FINALLY put it on that 175 I finished the brakes on.   To get the battery out now, I'll have to take off the cab, or remove the fuel tank!  I couldn't believe it, either!

I backed another 175 in the shop, to change front tires this am, and antifreeze was dripping out!   Trying to put another clamp on the bottom radiator hose, ( remember the bolt holding cross bars under Radiator), but almost impossible!  Broke two cheapo clamps, then went and bought heavy duty SS Clamp (made USA).....still leaking!  I had to take off hood , grill, air filter, radiator cross bars, all side / underneath sheet metal around radiator, ....finally radiator off!  I believe bottom radiator hose opening needs resoldering....possible trip to radiator shop.....WHEW!

I FEEL  your pain!  Wonderful Tractor, but really discouraging to work on!

Did you get your other tractor engine sputtering figured out?  What did you find?

Well  Bruce, you put it in a good perspective anyway LOL....I would have  fixed the fuel gauge while I was messing with it, but the hood woulda had to come off - and you know what a job that is.  BTW, this is the tractor that cab came off of...I guess I shouldn't complain too loud, it is the best of the bunch and has made me a lot of money.
Changed the fuel filters on the sputtering 175 today but it did no good....I'm afraid it is a pump problem....this guy sat all last summer cause it wouldn't start, guess it might sit this summer out too if I don't need it. Good thing I have 4 of them...and know where another two are sittin for sale.....

Eldon, can I get a 175 tractor into that fruit-tractor-trailer, my neighbor drove to bring your cab to NC, for me?  Silly thoughts....but dangerous, especially if I keep thinking about it! Ha!

What's the procedure for finding the problem and fixing Fuel Guages on these?

Also, I have a 3-4 of small Cab parts...don't exactly know where they go?
Two pieces of heavy metal strips, with several holes, to bolt the cab onto frame???Where?

Does the person your cab came from possibly have a manual for the full-vision cab?
Know of anyone with a brochure, or info copy?

Bruce you are testing my memory now....I took that cab off probably 6 years ago! If I remember right, the 2 heavy pieces were part of the top link modification on the 3pt bracket. Then you had the area around the hydraulic control levers that had some small parts. If you can post pics of the parts it might jog my memory....I doubt there was a manual for the cab....maybe instructions, but good luck finding them!

As for the fuel gauge, it is probably the unit in the tank that is bad on mine, and I already used the one from my parts tractor on another one....
