Hey guys! Got a question. I am working on a 1952 Allis B and am in the middle of rebuilding the engine, starting to put it back together. I removed the old sleeves and cleaned the block thoroughly. The old sleeves had what looked like flat o rings (or they could have just been that worn) but the new sleeves came with round o rings. I'm not as concerned about that as I am that the sleeves have two grooves and the kit came with three o rings. Also the o-rings are rather "loose" in the groove and one groove will hold two o rings. Does anyone know why the kit came with three but the sleeve only has two grooves and should I be concerned about how much clearance the o ring has in the groove?

The kit I bought last year also had an extra o ring for each sleeve, don't know why. I just kept them for future use somewhere else.

Did your o ring also have a lot of play between the top and the bottom of the groove?

Couldn't tell you for sure, the machine shop ordered the kit and installed the sleeves.

The reason the O rings were flat is that they took a (set) (the shape they were pressed into) over time. You would use one O ring per groove. The thing to be concerned about is how much larger the outside diameter of the installed O ring compaired to the outside diameter of the sleeve beside the O rings. You need enough press of the O ring to seal.
Remember that the sleeves should be able to be put down in the block all the way and turn 360 degrees by hand without the O rings to make sure they will set flat at the top lip.

I would get a hold of the supplier and ask what's up. I find it hard to believe they would just send extra o rings and two in one groove doesn't sound right either. As already said the originals were probably round when installed.
This is a critical area for your rebuild and would want it right. Just my 2 cents Dennis
