How do they compare? Economy? Cab quality? I'd think parts would be easier to come by for the Ford...seems to be a lot of 6610's out there. Comments??

The 268 engine is a 4 cyl. version of the 401. The mechanic at my local AGCO dealer calls the 401 a 20,000 hr. engine if taken care of. From my experience the 401 is very easy on fuel and will start when cold as easy or better than my D17 gas.

My brother had a TW15 with the 401 for quite awhile and really liked it. I ran it a few times and it seemed like a solid tractor, very easy on fuel.

Eldon are you looking at a newer Ford to replace the 8N you sold?

6610 is a great tractor and probably one of the simplest tractors to work on out there. The 8x2 crash box is pretty much indestructible and the 268 engine will last 10,000+ hours easily and take quite a bit of abuse. Hydraulics are a little over complicated, but rarely if ever give problems (they used open center pumps with a closed center circuit design for remote/lift set up if that makes any sense to you). Also they are very easy to split and do repairs. Can't say much about the cab, as our 6610 and 7610 are both open station tractors. The 268 has a good crackle to it, so I'd advise against straight piping it...

Sorta....but mainly I am just getting old and thinking a cab tractor would be nice for some of the jobs that I do. The 190XT is too big to haul around....and the cab sucks.

The Ford 6610 is a great if not excellent tractor. Lots of power for it size very easy to work on, except for mybe the hydraulics (I think that was mentioned earlier). Another thing is they are pretty common so finding parts is no problem. Thats only my opinion. |

We have 2 6080's and besides the 17 IV they are both Dad and my favorite. Good power, low maintenance and longevity. don't know much about fords but the 6080/70 are great machines

I love my 6080. But I see a lot of the 6610's used on highway mowing around here in SWVA so they have to be tough tractors to take the abuse those guys put them through.

Eldon, if you can find any 40 series Fords out there(5640, 6640 etc.) they are excellent tractors as well, they replaced the 10 series. Very fuel efficient and nice cabs. We have a 5640 with about 5400 hrs. The most extensive repairs it has needed is a new alt. and A/C comp. and steering valve had some leaks. It does all of our corn planting, side dressing, most baling, cutting hay, wagon pulling, auger, manure spreader, and even field work in a pinch.
