Anyone else see these on Ebay ?? New, never used Planet Jr planters. I'd bid but I have a feeling these will bring a lot more than I would comfortably want to pay !

I bought one of those about 30 years ago at an auction. I think I paid $1 for it. I took it home and bent up a handle off of a push lawn mower and used it for green beans in the garden. It will plant beans perfect as fast as you want to walk. I got 3 plates with it and the seed chart is under the lid. Maybe I should buy two more and make a 3 row planter for the B.

Charlie, you are lucky ol buddy! I have been looking for one at local auctions for awhile now. I know where I can get them new from market farm implement in PA but boy are they expensive! but they really are an excellent little planter.

They do make a modern equivalent 1 row planter with a push handle for $120. I see them on sale for $99. So, if you had some steel stock laying around to make into a tool bar, or had a tool bar set up, you could have a mounted planter for about $100 per row.

If you're talking about those plastic push planters they're a far cry from the Planet Jr planter.Think Cole/Covington owns them now and are still making a similar planter.

I have seen Planet Jr. at auction, but I believe they had a cast type seed box. I guess they would be the original, or older version? I have a very reliable aluminum one row planter with a stack of plates for various things. It works great, so I never paid any attention to what those go for. Maybe I should start?

John(Mi), my 30 + year old one has tin hopper and lid but the base of the hopper is cast, like this one.

Muth Welding and Equipment on Highway 50 at Rocky Ford, CO had a dozen of complete toolbar planters and hundreds of Planet Jr parts to make more. Last time I asked the price for a complete seeder it was $325. There were plenty still there this past June. If you need Planet Jr parts this is the place. I saw seed boxes a foot tall. Fill one of those up with turnip seed and plant a loooong row.
I have 4 walk behinds with handles and row markers that were handed down from my grandfather. I still use them. Before I found Muth I got some missing parts from Rispin Seed Co in Beecher Illinois

For $1000 I could buy a REALLY good 6 row narrow planter that was rebuilt or had low acreage.
I just can't see people shelling out this cash for something like this. It seems so unrealistic. BTW, if anyone is interested, I have a Ford 309 2 row wide planter for sale for $3000. Mint condition, never been kicked or stomped, and I barely even farted in it's presence. LOL |
