Here's a poser for you all. mdm1 wrote a thread about his bad switch and got it fixed. I have an all together question.
Is there a way to by-pass this switch? I don't mean to 'lock' it in place, but to get rid of it all together? Use a key instead? Put on your thinking caps or someone who has already done this? |

Only thing I can think of is to find a regular starter that fits; one with a regular stud for a direct connection of a battery cable. You would need to wire that through a solenoid, of course. I saw a web page that offered replacement starters that could be ordered for most tractors. They would configure the starter for you. You really don't want to know how much they charged.

Sure, I have a few of them that I was selling at the last show.
You open the started housing and replace the bronze knob that sticks out with a stud/bolt. Then wire that to the switched side on a solenoid. When you turn a key to start position it closes the solenoid and sends power just like a car. JimD

JimD, have you got any pics to share? I think I can see it, but... Pictures always help. Thanks

It's been done for the last 60+ years. Like Jim D says use a solenoid. You will need to solder the winding connection to the new stud for your starter. I just had one switched back to get rid of the solenoid and go back to a pull switch. |
