PD handle removal

   i didn't spend much time messing with it, but i tried taking the PD handle off to fix the leak the other day. there is a bolt on the bottom side, i tried to loosen it, but it didn't wanna budge.....is it supposed to come out? it's had a steady flow of hydro oil coating it for months now.....so i doubt it's siezed up. i tried turning both directions just incase it was some odd-ball reverse thread. do i need to keep persuading it, or is there something else i need to do to get the handle off?

	Should just be a large, 1 1/8 wrench?, jam nut and then the smaller, 11/16 wrench?, tapered set screw and they are normal RH thread. I have had a few where the tapered set screw is really tight and took all of my 2 foot breaker bar to bust loose.

	Don't know what you are working on but if it is a early D series you will need to remove the side cover and remove another set screw then slide the shaft far enough to expose the oring then slide shaft the other direction and change that oring. If it is a later tractor there is a snapring ring on left side to be removed. MACK

	mack, it is a series IV, but i wasn't thinking about your instructions when i started tonight....i ended up taking the side cover/plate off also to see what was in there, i guess i just caused myself extra work....and a big mess. anyway, i finally got the o-rings changed and got the snap ring back on without losing it or shooting myself in the face. next questions.....should the side plate have any kind of sealant on it when i bolt it back on, or just metal to metal? it doesn't look like it had any before, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. and since i have a few parts off, maybe i can finally dig into the allis orange rattle can paint the wife bought me a year ago.....have atleast 1 nice, clean orange part on the ol girl.

	more questions. since the cover is off, is there anything i should inspect or replace? i'm guessing it's never been off before, so is there anything prone to wearing out after 50 years? and as far as gasket goes, will RTV be okay?

	If it is working ok, not much else can be done from the outside. RV should work. MACK
