Been a while since I've opened an engine or seen the bearing surfaces but I don't think this is a good thing ! There's a knocking coming from somewhere, rod caps all seem the same for play. Figured I'd better get a look at the bearings. This is the number one bearing in my G. Lines on the crank can be felt with a fingernail. No doubt the rest are the same. Guess I need to get an engine stand and figure how I'm gonna get this bugger apart !

Yeah, I'm taking pictures over to the NAPA shop to give them a heads up. Will no doubt be getting in touch with you for bearings and such, Tony !

That looks good compared to the WD-45 i've got apart right now. Just imagine 4 spun rod bearings and how that looks. |

Don't be talking like that Cody ! Like I said, I've got this one and 2 others I'd like to get done ! Plus I have one with a busted block that hopefully can be used for parts if needed. (Besides the steering box on a Oliver 550 and head gasket on a Oliver 1600 !!! I hope winter isn't that long !)

Looking at that crank, the oil hole is chamfered. That's a common engine/crank rebuilding practice when grinding cranks and rebuilding engines for better oiling. Unless that's a factory thing on those particular engines. That crank might have been ground already. Well, whatever it is, the extra oiling didn't work well I guess. LOL! What is it with these Continental N62 engines that they are so expensive to rebuild and repair?? Sheesh! Warren, not to upset ya anymore than you are, but that doesn't look good! LOL! Could be alot worst tho. Could've made a window in the side of the block I guess...

At least much of the babbit on the bearing is scraped away from the copper. Won't take as long to get the rest off for recycling!
