thinking of Running chaff spreader off combine hyd

   The L2 we have has a Vitetoe chaff spreader driven off of the header hydraulic reel drive.  We're looking at a bigger header and keeping the smaller one for small patches and was wondering about running the chaff spreader off the main hydraulic system of the combine rather than re plumbing the new head..  

We have an old L2 for parts and i was thinking of putting a solenoid valve that engages with the separator clutch either in front or behind the main valve stack.  the only problem i see with after the main stack is that when the header is raised all the oil will be diverted to the one way cylinder and not return out the back of the valve stack and then to the spreader.  

If it's in front, it will see the same pressure that it takes to operate all the other hydraulics of the machine.  It probably won't hurt anything but would be unnecessary.  

thought about using the steering circuit but only runs 4 gpm, spreader needs 6.  both reel drive and main circuit on machine run 10.

has anyone tried this or have any other thoughts?

	we always run the spreader off the main hydros, just buy an adjustable regulater to slow it down, if you run the full 10gpm then it will just spin it faster.

	Had a Vivitoe (sp?) on a JD 8820 it had a regulator so you could adjust the rpms = spread width.

	The L2 does not have a hydraulic seperator clutch, it is a electric clutch. MACK

	I already have a flow divider that i plan to put in, just wondering if you put the valve on the back side of the main stack or in front. thanks

	I plumbed one thru the steering circuit on a 79 L2 and customer thought it was just fine....he only had 15 ft wide headers and it ran whenever the engine ran, which he was fine with that as far as safety goes.
