 Topic: Anybody Got a Wiggle Hoe got a B or G Tractor?

Today I ran across a brochure for the "Wiggle Hoeing Attachement" that was offered with mountings for AC "B" and "G" tractors. The brochure can be seen at at http://www.tm-tractor.com/gbrochures/wiglehoeing.htm . Does anybody have one of these or parts of one?

In Lancaster County Pa. they make a similar weeder for tobacco, for the G. It is spring loaded and the operator/driver pulls a lever to spread the cultivator. when the lever is released it goes back together. The first G that I bought came with a set of these cultivators. They use a sickle mower cutting blade welded to the bottom of the shank to cut the weed roots. Bob

Dad and Uncle used one for years in tomato and tobacco. Used a flat blade hoe attacnment, but I have seen the tines. Used on an IH Farmall 100 and similar. Was told that this thing was invented about a half mile from me by a local farmer. Knew his son, who died about 10 years ago at close to 90 years. Always thinking and scheming, inventing something or other, most hairbrained, but that's where advances happen. Story is that Mr. Wigle (Weigel was the German version) invented the hoe attachment but did not patent, IH or some other copied and patented and sold it. Worked well in softer soils, a real arm workout in harder or stony soils. Might still have one around, one neighbour does have one, have used it. Rob.

I kinda have them put away for now. I never mounted them, but perhaps next summer when the G is running and being used for cultivating, I could take a picture. I had them out a while back and replaced 2 ball bearing that were worn out, then put them away again

I sure did! Held onto then for at least 5yrs. Nobody could tell me what they were so I finally junked them earlier this year. About a month later I saw that broshure. Figures???

I'm sure it would be mounted on the rear of a G, or any other tractor as there's no way a guy could both drive and run the tool. A distant neighbor has a couple of the Reigi cultivators. Bought a 2 row and was so impressed he bought a 6 row. Works great in Pumpkins and squash.

Do you by chance know who made that? Was it Hershey or another company?

I think the one that I have was made by a blacksmith or in a farm shop. I don't think it was a commerical item. I know that they are made commerically out there but I don't know by who. Bob

If you ever put it back on the tractor I'd LOVE to see some pictures of it...I'll have to pass it around to some of the guys and see if they can ID it...I think it's always neat to learn about as much local history as possible, especially when it comes to ag.
