I have a 1940's AllisChalmer, it is Model A with no serial number. It does currently not run, but needs minor work. (new battery, oil change, ect.) I would like some input on what someone would suggest it is worth??
Thanks!

If you have an Allis A, its more likely 1930's. Someone I'm sure will tell you where to find the serial number.....I'm not familiar with A's to tell you. As far as a battery you need a 6 volt battery and it should be Positive + ground. Make sure to hook it up right. Make sure it wasnt changed to 12v before buying a battery though. If it was changed to a 1 post GM alternator or something like that is possible. As far as worth, we'd have to see pictures to really give an idea on value. I'd love to have one.

Going to need a picture of it to start with. Why is there no serial #? It should be on top of the tranny next to the shifter.

Doe's the tractor have hydraulics ? If so, it most likely is not an A.

It does have hydraulics to lift the snow plow, but on the tractor it does say that it is Model A.

Only thing I'd be worried about is I dont see a muffler, or much of a stack sticking up and it doesnt look covered...first thing is to see if it'll turn over. I'm sure there is someone here close to you that can help with it.

I hope this tractor hasn't been converted. A "working tractor" should be converted. A show tractor should be left as original as possible. Just my opinion, that's all.
Edit: Ah.. it's B - not an A. Nevermind. Edited by DougS - 03 Dec 2011 at 1:29pm |

It does take a 12v battery. Any opinions on what it would be worth or a year?

Click on the link to see where the serial number should be, this will let us find the year: http://people.clemson.edu/~wsmth/SNLocat/ACSN1.htm
As far as worth ? If not running. maybe $500

There are lot's of B's out there but this is the only one YOUR grandfather had and I hope you think about that factor! If you sell it it won't bring much in the condition it's in .

Kylie, your B is a late 1940 according to the serial number.

I'm still kicking myself in the rear end for not finding the money to buy the WD that my grandpa farmed with, it wasn't his it belonged to a farm he shared cropped. It was the tractor, 3 bottom sc mounted plow, and a 2 row corn snapper (picker without the husking rolls.)

I would also think long and hard about selling it. Not very many of us have anything from our great grandfathers. I wish I did. Having something that he used is much better than a few pictures on the wall which is all I have. Later in life you may wish you had it. If you don't have the means, funds or time now then just get it under a roof and let it sit until the day comes that you do.

And the other thing, Kylie- it may not be a BIG tractor (in comparison to a WC, WD, or D-series)...
but it's big enough to pull a family car out of a bad 'stuck', and the Henderson loader on there will make a weak person strong... moving landscaping materials around the yard, put a chain around it and carry heavy stuff, rip out unwanted brush and thorns... it's a great general-purpose workhorse, and it's compact and light enough to maneuver around a smaller yard. Hey guys- take a really close look at the operator's station. I see the shifter, and I see another (taller) lever with knob... Now, it MAY be that the taller lever is a control for the hydraulics... but what IF Kylie's report of saying Model A... is actually CA... and someone put a B wide-front on it for the loader??? Might this be a CA? Edited by DaveKamp - 04 Dec 2011 at 11:26am |
