was lookng at some C tractors at the yard about a week ago and they all have these four holes casted and taped on the top of each final drive. and this pic has a bracket on it. what are these holes used for? what about this bracket? is it for cultivators maybe? Thanks

Cultivator Bracket. There are no tellin how many total pieces in a complete C cultivator set. Two of everything. A left and a right to a 2 row set.

Thanks Bruce, I've got a line on steel wheel fenders but they are for my B since I don't think they will fit the C with the cultivators on it.

OK, the left side sweeps are missing in these pics, as well as the three shanks with shovels that go on the back bar. Just some pics I took when I was getting her ready to work.

The rear tool bar for the 80 series cultivators mounted to the rear set of holes in the finals. I'm not sure, but I think the 80 series mounted planters used the front holes for the lift pivot point to keep everything in line. Finals were cast in such a way that they could be used for either left or right side on any tractor. Lot less expense at the foundry that way. This was also taken into account when making implements. Very smart, weren't they?

Those C's are really growin' on me. Glenn PA and I have to hook up to get the NF he has that was off my early hand brake C model that at the moment has a B front end under it. I guess right now its considered an early hand brake B/C..... LOL!

LONNIE, I DON'T THINK THAT THE C'S HAD THE WIDE FENDERS BECAUSE THE WHEELS WERE FAR ENOUGH FROM THE OPERATOR. DREAM THOSE SWEEPS ARE DIFFERENT THAN I'VE SEEN. NEAT THOUGH. DON IS THAT A RACE OR JUST DOUBLE DUTY? OR IS MY EYE SIGHT GOING BAD & SEEING DOUBLE? NICE PICS!!

Yeah, i've never seen another set of sweeps like those. My grandad and his first cousin farmed together. Both had Cs, and both had the same sweeps.
Makes it very easy to change out. They would drop the wsweeps off and use the rear bar with 3 shanks to lay off rows for veggies, then go back and put the sweeps on so that they would throw a little dirt into the furrow to cover the seeds. When it was time to cultivate, they swapped sides with the sweeps and they would pull the dirt/weeds away from the rows. Time for side dressing, swap sides again and throw dirt to the roots. Worked out well, and took no time to change.

Any problems might run into putting cultivators like seen above on a C with a wide front? NOT a B wide front either

The cultivators fit the wide front C the same way. Not as easy to install since you can't just drive between them. With a Wide front you drive in get the outboard ends of the cultivator on the cultivator front suppont bar then lift the back and swinge them in. thats wy NF tractors were more popular in areas that did row crop farming.

Yep, that and the fact they were a little easier to turn around, therefore letting folks plant slightly longer rows and have a little less hardway at the ends.
I know someone is going to argue, but the NF C that we have takes much less room to turn around and causes less damage than the JD(utility tractor) that we have. If you lock one of the brakes and cut the wheel hard, the WF will actually slide the front wheels around, where the NF C will just wheel right on around without disturbing the ground at all. My grandad was so good at it, he could turn around and get back on the row cultivating in no more than the length of the tractor. I never got that good.
