Looking at a 48 C with a Woods belly mower on it.  Mower needs new belts, owner said he had the head off and it was cracked between the cylinders.  I know thats not a big deal on a W engine, but didn't know on the smaller ones.  Tin seems straight, has real good turf tires.  Clutch free play feels a little strange.  There is a lot of motion with no resistance and the pedal doesn't feel like it comes back right.  Was going to look on AGCO parts and see how it works.  Haven't heard it run.  He was asking $1,500, but witht he mower needing belts hes come down to $1,000.  Sound like a deal or not?

Pictures would help. Plan on splitting the tractor for clutch/pressure plate repair. If the mower is in good shape except for needing belts I would not go over $1,000, probably offer $800. Which model mower? What about hydraulics? The C is a great little tractor but can eat up some money if a lot of repairs are needed.

I would go for $1000.00 on a C with a belly mower. The cracks in the head are no different than on the other ones with sleeves. Most of my tractors I have bought for around that price with mowers. What kind of deck does it have on it?

It's a Woods, I stepped it off at 5' but I'm not sure of the model.  It does have hyd and is a hyd lift mower.  I looked at the parts book and I think the pedal return spring is missing which might explain a lot of the funny clutch feel.  Never been around a C before so I'm not familiar with how it should feel.  I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow.  It'd replace the Bush Hog 6' pull type that I've been using behind my WD.  Would probably try to offer it to the guy in trade-he deals in antique equipment.

If you trade him, then it better be less than $1000.00! IMHO. just a quick look, used L-59 is between 100 and 850, and 850 to 1250 used for an L306! Belts for my L306 were 45.00 a piece the last time I bought them. Just something to think about before you get rid of your brush hog...

For sure less than a grand.  Probably $600 and my mower is what I'd shoot him and go from there.

About 6 years ago I priced the Woods belt for an L59 on my B. It was $98.
Don't plan on mowing with the Woods the stuff you normally mow with a bush hog. They are a finish mower and will not handle tall grass period. The Woods mower is a lot handier on a CA with a lower first gear than the B or C. That said, it is still a pretty handy outfit to mow with on any of em compared to a lawn mower.

I'm looking at running it high and topping off the weeds in the pasture.  Bush hog was overkill, but I sold my sickle mower and it wasn't much fun to use around trees.  Am I looking at mowing in 1st gear with the C?  Could run my 6' Bush hog in 2nd with my WD.
