    Posted: 20 Aug 2011 at 1:05pm

Im switching over my D17 Series III from a generator to alternator.  Does anyone know if someone makes/sells the alternator bracket conversion.  The original brackets the generator uses will not work for the alternator.  I am not a good fabricator so I was just wondering if someone makes them.  Thanks...Jason

There are universal alternator brackets being sold but most of the time you still have to redo them for your application.

Yes, get the alternator brackets off a 170 gas and you will be in business

Use lower alternator brackets from a 170-175. Cut/trim the upper gen bracket so it clears the power steering pump (which a 170-175 doesn't have). Leave cooling fan off of the alternator so it clears the power steering pump belt. You don't need the cooling fan on the alternator.
