I have a 916H that  won't start( has new battery) on it's own, I can start it by boosting it and then it stays running fine. The amp. gauge stays on the negative side while it is running- so I am assuming the charging system is not working, what is all involved in in fixing the charging system as I understand that they don't have an alternator/generator.
Thanks

I don't know anything about the AC 916H, but my Simplicity 7114 (14 hp version) has a generator on it with a regulator. I know some brands use a starter/generator combination with a regulator. If you go to Simpletractors.com you can get info on it. They have wiring diagrams, parts and service manuals. Bob

We talking 16hp Kohler K341? They have an alternator under the flywheel and a regulator rectifier mounted on the flywheel housing. At full throttle you should measure about 35 volts AC across the stator. The regulator has 3 terminals with a single terminal going to the battery through the ign switch.
