I just bought a used Woods 59 right hand drive for under 300.00 on Ebay. Took 150 bucks in gas and another 150 for an over night stay with vitals. I am mounting it under a C. Not sure I will like it under the C as the rear tires set in as far as I can get them is still wider than the mower. I might put another B together for it.
I bought a Woods L59 12 years ago for 600 bucks local and it was only in fair looking condition but held up real well over the years under a B. That is the reason I bought the second on to keep at the farm so I don't have to haul one back and fourth with over 4 buck diesel for the big truck.
All the above said I was not and wouldn't be afraid to buy a used Woods mower.

Don't buy new. I have seen Woods L59 anywhere from $1150 for mine when I got it and replaced 1 set of bearings and 1 spindle. It was bent. I had less then $300 in it when I started mowing including a new Woods belt. |

You want an L 306 for the C. I gave away the L59 that I had and bought a new L306 I wouldn't go back. A 306 will cut to the edge of the left tires and stick oug about 8 inches past the right tire. mine was 2000 new and it was the best money I've spent. make sure you get the optional gauge wheels and manual lift.

They are much harder to find used, but a Woods L503 is a really nice mower... it's basically an improved L59. It has a spring loaded tensioner that eliminates the need to monitor the belt as closely. I have one under my C... wish I could find another one.

Yes! buy used and dont pay much for it, at least around here. If the spindles are noisy they are easy and cheap to rebuild as long as you dont use Woods parts. The bearings are available at any auto parts store just ask for outer front wheel bearings for a 70 Impala. While we are on the subject does anyone remember the industrial belt number for the L59 on a B or C? I just trashed my second $115 Woods belt and I want to try one.

I've got an L-306 on my CA. The deck is at least 35 years old. Have only replaced one spindle and one guage wheel and I don't know how many sets of blades. Butch is right about the price of Woods parts to rebuild, but you won't need to do much repair. If you keep the belts tight and blades sharp, it is as good a mower as any new one. Good luck.

ButchYou want a B225 belt. Try JayDee belts; they have them, good quality and considerably cheaper than Woods or NAPA. The website is: http://www.jdv-belts.com/catalogs.html
JM Apoligize for hijacking your post to provide a response to Butch's inqiry. I 2nd the recommendation for a used Woods L306 for your C. I have purchased several over the years. They are very well built and can be repaired. Parts are available from Woods, or one can use more economical substitutes (like Butch suggested).

Just bought a B225 belt. $28 plus shipping. Dayco brand.
I had a Sunmaster Kub-Klipper on a C. I sold the mower for $60 a ton back then.
