Don't know what they use but we use Ranger Pro. Supposed to be the same as Round Up (of course) for half the price. Works pretty good for us

Roundup is a weed/ grass killer.... Lasts about 6 weeks and stuff starts to grow back... Thats what 99% of us use.... Power Company and others use a GROUND STERILANT... Poisions the dirt and stuff dont grow for 1-3 years...
Mixing Roundup with diesel fuel will do a long term job... Some of the " ground killers" have an oil / naptha / petrolium base to them... or this ![]() Edited by steve(ill) - 11 Aug 2025 at 8:51pm |

Probably need a license to use some of that stuff depending on your state. And several weeds are becoming round up tolerant do your results may vary. Liberty(glufosinate) kills quickly, it’s really quite impressive! But stuff grows back. Most of these work best when the weed is young, like 4-6 inches tall.

I forgot about diesel. Pawpaw used to spray weeds with it. It'll flat kill but I'd bet you better not get caught.

poor man's roundup ( cheap to make, works great, kills all ) jug of vinegar,2 cups salt, few squirts of dish soap spray on after morning dew is gone, weeds die after lunch saw a video of farmers using a steam genny at base of grape vines, worked very well.

Yeah…. I was dealing with a hay guy a few years ago. Talking about trimming fences to keep the juice hot. He told me he uses gasoline! I was shocked. I thought no way. But the more I get tired of trimming and such, the more I think, hmmm!… |

Gas or diesel will kill most grasses and weeds. Also works well on wasp nests. At $3 per gallon, may be cheaper than you thought option too. Not sure how it would work in modern, all plastic garden sprayers. Worked really well in the old metal ones.

last 2 years i have been buying Dicamba plus 24D to spray in the yard and barn lot. Dicamba will kill any WEEDS that the 24D will not.. Together they kill all WEEDS.. Will not kill the grass. Dicamba will kill weeds that are 4 ft tall..... if your weeds get use to the 24D, the Dicamba will give them an extra KICK..... This is not an ALL KILL or Ground Sterilant.

if you’re killing 4 foot tall weeds with dicamba, or anything for that matter, you must be drenching the chit outta it!
YEP... guy next door has a hill side with lots or rocks / etc.. No tractor there. I mixed 3 oz per gallon in a 3 gallon weed sprayer and gave them a GOOD bath ... Maybe 1200 sq ft area.. All died in 2 weeks.

Crossbow is the best herbicide that can be bought without a license. Not cheap. I use Roundup and 2-4-D Brush Killer formula mixed together. Sometimes with a particularly bad growth of Sumac ,I'll add some Diesel Fuel. I call that Napalm! Pramitol works well too,if you can find it. Not many Farm Stores carry it. I let my Pesticide License expire,so now I buy over the counter like everybody else.

Couple gallons of gasoline, mix in some motor oil or diesel fuel in a carry sprayer. When job is done, take everything apart to dry.
