Why isn't there a hole to pin the swing hitch to the center?
( Obviously I don't use my tractor for farming!) Wally

Wouldn't be a 'swing' hitch then. Might have something to do with the distance of the drawbar hole from the PTO. G https://www.mecum.com/lots/GF1115-225552/1948-allis-chalmers-b-wide-front/ Edited by Gary - 22 Feb 2023 at 6:03pm |

If you want it to not swing MUCH.. just drop a bolt in on each side of the bar and limit the travel to a couple inches... If you want it MORE SOLID.. bolt a small plate to each side so the bar can not move sideways.

I think there's a bracket that can lock it to center, as others have said, if there was a center hole, breakage likely...

Does your Original Drawbar have the 2 smaller holes, 1 hole each side of the larger Centre Hole, similar to the hitch in the picture I posted ? If so, drop a bolt into each smaller hole. G |

Thanks All, for the replys
This is a new tractor to me so I haven't much work for it yet. It seamed as if would be difficult to back up a trailer with the hitch swinging from side to side. I see the swing can easily be limited but wondered why not in the center. Thanks

The smaller Farmall’s (400, Super M, 656) where I worked years ago, all had ‘swinging drawbars, tho we never let them ‘swing’, two bolts with a plate under.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

WD’s and ‘45s didn’t have a center hole, either. A clamp that straddled the drawbar, or just two bolts was used, depending on how rigid a connection needed.

The swinging drawbar was an option that bolted to the regular drawbar, which is bolted to the final drives. If you don't need the swinging drawbar for your application, bolt it to one side and use the center hole in the regular drawbar.

I found out what a swing hitch was last summer at a tractor show
when I got too close and wracked my shin! Does that count?
