    Posted: 18 Dec 2022 at 8:44am
We had wife’s family Xmas yesterday, typical cook too much, too much effort for a short period of time visit.
Since she first decided to have Xmas at our house after her Mom passed has been tormenting to say the least. She and sis try to recover their own family Xmas for four kids and all the inclusive family members, do not get that kind of activity these days.

The Old school of thought is massive meal, close to a dozen side dishes at least two kinds of meat and tons of sweet stuff. Cookie-thon begins up to a week out from the visit where everyone that leaves is expected to voluntarily haul away mountains of baked goods.
13 people including two under 6, five of us over 60 with 3 over 65. One grand daughter of Sis in Law is somewhat Vegan as is boyfriend but will eat small amounts of poultry, they have the two children, are strict as to not eating excessively while watching calories and childrens healthy diets. One nephew has Crones with diet restrictions, sis in law herself type 2 diabetic.

So back to the end result, are sitting on several dozen varied types cookies and candies no one else eats, they cooked two 5lb roasts for Italian Beef sandwiches is around three lbs remaining, Bought 30 piece Champs fried Chicken, have twelve pieces left over and seven of twelve side dishes are in the fridge less than 1/4 eaten. Sis in Law noted she has no room at home so not taking anything. Her Blood Sugar is oscillating severely today already.
Wife is angry sticking her hand in my face as I told her NOT to make so much, and for Fourth season. Pissy is smoothest word for her attitude today.

Last week I had cleaned ENTIRE house, she had to find it a need to tell me how poorly I did that then explained what I NEEDED to repeat on Friday, the obedient servant went on strike as I stated she found she fixes. Did not make good points either of us, Sis stated I needed to change that tone of voice and I explained NOT my Mother or my blood sister as I walked off.

I dare say may be a rough week ahead.

Dave, hope this Christmas season smoothes out for you. People have lost the real focus of Christmas.....celebrating the birth of our Savior. Families are too separated now to have the large gatherings of the past. People go out and buy gifts they can't afford, and get all stressed out, just to give to someone who really doesn't appreciate it. And there is too much eating also. I prefer a small gathering with close family and friends and no drama. I prefer to give to a veterans group, animal rescue or children's hospital. This year will include a young man from your fine state who has no family in this area except for his church family to celebrate with us.

Anyway.....wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

I am Jewish. Wife is not. Growing up, hanukkah was kind of afterthought, not a big holiday. We would finish milking , mom would make a regular dinner( lots of potato pancakes), we would play with the dredel and you would get a little present, like a matchbox car. Last night you get a bigger present. First time i went to a Christmas, my mother warned me , it waa different.talk about everything to excess. Think i had a panic attack. Glad later in life i met may families were the holiday is about the birth of your lord, not how much crap you can buy or eat.

We have smaller gatherings now and the gift exchange so to speak, is more throughout the year than all jabbed into a few days. Little kids though are different, they like there presents.

My family used to have a family gathering till Mother went in Rest Home now I am lucky to see my siblings once a year and I usually have to go see them as they don't bother to call or visit. My one brother has had 2 mimi strokes and the only way we find out is a couple days latter his wife might post something on Facebook. My wife's family we usually communicate regularly.
