greetings,
the clutch pedal does not seem to be pushing down far enough to disengage the clutch. therefore, I cant put the tranny in gear. do i need to move the pedal on the enc of its shaft to increase the pressure on the shaft to disengage the clutch? I have removed all the play in the turnbuckle adjustment. anyone have any ideas on this? thx

I have a 160, did this just happen or have you done a recent clutch replacement? Before I begin to chime in with suggestions give us some background info.

thx for the reply, its been sitting for a month as i tinkered with the general maintenance: oil and fluid changes, filter changes, ect. I did removed a set of shims from the clutch plates for the PTO because the PTO was not disengaging. other than that not sure what would create the problem?

I’d say when you removed a shim is where the problem is. I also had an issue with my clutch after a full rebuild. Totally my fault as my tractor was split for several months getting a complete engine rebuild and having both clutches rebuilt. Rick did an incredible job as usual on the clutches, but as I put the tractor back together I for which way the shims went back in. Also would not go in gear. So I split the tractor again. After trying to figure what was wrong, reading through 2 different manuals including the AC maintenance manual, there is no mention of how the shims are positioned. I finally figured it out as I laid the entire clutch assembly on the floor and used a flashlight to see what was going on. I had positioned the flat part of the shims inward which seamed correct, however I noticed that they were contacting the clutch edge at 2 locations. So I turned the shims with the rounded edge inward and that solved my problem. Make sure the flat edge is facing outwards.

You say you removed a set of shims? You should have only removed 1 shim from each of the 6 bolts. There should have been 3 shims per bolt unless there was a previous adjustment. Also make sure the shims are placed between the backing plate and clutch housing.

Did you have a chance to look at the shims?
