Working on my 1958 D14 with the steering wheel that uses a pin through the shaft. In spite of it being incorrect for the year, I would like to put one of the newer model steering wheels with the center diamond for the power steering emblem....maybe even in the later year white. Splined shaft I think.... Anyone swapped out parts to do this?

That's what I am wondering.....if the upper shaft to the swivel could "match up" or if the design change was deeper for the later models that used the newer wheel.

I am patiently working on the pins for both the steering wheel and the upper shaft. I read here the pins are tapered and/or swaged on the ends, so I am trying soaking and tapping (banging with drift) to see if I can get any directional movement. Taper does not make sense but perhaps. The early parts diagram show pins with no description or numbers and look sorta like split roll pins but I am betting they are solid AND rusted SOLID too. Thanks Fred, that one looks like it is gonna stay forever...wow!

I believe that I have the steering shaft that was removed from a D14.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

I was able to drill the pin holding the upper steering shaft to the first U joint below the shaft and it separated with a few taps and some juice. The steering wheel pin is a different story after rusting in place for 64 years so I am happy to be able to lift the wheel and shaft out together.
The shaft measures .875 (7/8ths) and the pin hole is approximately 3/8th of an inch.

Black steering wheels are available for later model D14s with the power steering emblem. Please don't put a cream steering wheel on a D14!

Good to know..... It isn't a NAFTA violation I hope. I just sorta like the steering wheel. I promise I won't drive it to Ontario.
