When raising the plow, it swings in toward the center line until the top of the frame comes to rest against the rocker arm and, of course, scrapes the paint off both the rocker arm and the upper arm of the frame. The rocker arm is pushed in as far as it will go and I haven’t read anything in the implements manual that gives me any clue about why this is happening. Anyone have a suggestion on how to correct this?

The strap that holds the mount to the front axle should have a wedge shape on the bottom to swing it away from the lift assy. Ours is missing the wedge too. Would like to find one to copy.

Thanks for this information. That illustration is not in my manual. Maybe someone can post a picture with dimensions so we can fabricate it.

I should be able to make one.
Or at least make a drawing with dimensions. Dusty

Nice job Joe.
I just looked at mine, it's holding the plow on my G right now. I have pair of right and left plows on my G right now, and only one of those wedge plates, and it is slightly different than yours. But it's not easy to measure because it's in use. Dusty

Thanks Dusty. Joe is lending me his piece so I can make a copy. Do you have a picture of your tractor with the plows mounted? I would like to see it. Bob

I'll take a couple of pictures and e-mail them to you.
I have trouble posting pictures on here. That part is called for on each plow but mine is only on the left plow. |

I always remember the G was overall the best plowing tractor I sold. With the offset coulter it could really dispose of the trash. We could take it almost anywhere and do a good job. We were always amazed at how well it handled a 14" plow.
Good Luck! Bill Long JoeMGA, always good to see your name. Good Memories.

Bob I sent you 4 pictures. I hope you can open them. I use an Apple computer, which I like very well until I try to send pictures. Dusty

Bill the plows for the G are 12" plows.
And yes the G does a very nice job of plowing. Dusty

Make sure Item #8 was attached to your axle the correct way. It can only go one way.

Dusty, In Maryland when we sold them we always mounted a 14" plow. Handled it with no problem.
I had a GREAT DAY about 2 - 3 years ago when Bob Bollinger let me plow with his G at one of our plow days. Really appreciated that. It brought back some outstanding memories. Good Luck! Bill Long

Bill, My parts book only shows 12" mould board plows. How did you get 14" on the G ?

A local shop will make a replica of 1/2" (not 5/8" as original) for $25. If anyone is interested in one, let me know by June 30 and I'll have one made for you. Bob

Dusty, That may be in the parts book but on the dealer purchase order you could order 14" bottoms separately. That's what we did. Since the plow beam - so to speak - was Allis Chalmers standard we had no problem with them fitting.
We learned when we went to the first G dealer introduction in 1948 they had a 14" mounted on the G demonstrator since they did not have a 12" at the branch. When Pop saw it pull - or in this case pushed - so well that was all he ordered
We sold them on every G plow we sold and we sold a lot. Worked GREAT! Good Luck! Bill Long |
