To tell if it is definitely International.....Look inside the big wheels and see if there is a stamp in the casting - big I with an H in the middle with a big C around it to form a ring. That is an International trademark on old old machinery. Like they said, this is old flat chain.....count your links and take a sample with you for size and go to an old hardware store or farm store and see if you can still buy it. It is not available near as much as it used to be......but if it is a popular size, someone should still have it. Bluestem Farm & Ranch Supply store here in Kansas still had several sizes a year or 2 ago. That stuff will get so worn out that it just falls apart.....by that I mean worn so much that the links slide sideways instead of locking in place and it just comes apart. Keep your new chain well oiled for long life of service. Take a pump oil can and keep oil squirted on it.

In answer to your speed question------VERY slow! them old rakes were pulled by a team of horses! --- Ya, everybody stuck a hitch for tractor on them and started tearing them up! We always pulled ours in second gear half throttle or less with a 1936 WC allis on 11:00 28 tires, so that should give you an idea how slow you need to go!
Faster than that it will self destruct! They were not made very good to start with but for horse use they worked fine. They do bunch the hay really bad ---kinda like a dump rake!

That is a steel one. There are some that are the same pitch I think but made of cast iron, they can break.

I would say it was built in the early 40s. That chain will out last the rest of the rake. MACk

This is just simple old flat link chain that has been around for close to 100 yrs. Made for slower RPM's Go to TSC and get a new roll(10') if you think it is wore out. Otherwise oil it up and rake hay if you ever mow it.

it is possible to wear those chains out. The loops will wear and stretch so the end of the next link can slide sideways just enough to lock it stiff; snap!

I am not the expert but I think your front wheels were never meant to have rubber on them, they look like the standard steel wheel of the time. my 2 cents

I doubt that, that chain will ever need replacing. Maybe put a little heavy oil on it.

Its what IHC called just a 4-bar side delivery rake. The low rubber wheel version was a No.5. That chain was an odd chain called 72-1/2. I googled it and venders come up who sell it

Detachable link chain. I have gotten it from Tractor Supply. Shoup has it also.

Just the chain? Should be able to measure a link and contact an outfit like Shoup for example and order new chain. The drive gears I can’t help you with.

So after some searching I did find this which looks to be the exact same thing but with rubber on the large spoke tires so I wonder if mine is just missing the rubber?  This one was listed for sale in 2017 in New Zealand I believe... If I have the same hay rake I'd love to know the story on this thing!

We had one very similar but newer with rubber tires. Don't know model number but I think your is just an older model.

Anyone know where I can get one to have as a spare? I need to know the length prior but does anyone sell these anywhere?  I'd also love to know what model and year this thing is if anyone knows? the guy I bought it off of said it was a international harvester brand? Also what gear should it be pulled in with a Allis Chalmers b1950?   It's kind of confusing because the large spoke metal wheels on front are paired with not matching wheels on the back ( not spoked metal) and it all looks to be original, it has rubber tube tires on the back?
