Thorium has been placed in and out of discussions for decades, Nuclear engineers will explain all the pitfalls of it where is Not so good nor so clean and cannot derive same level of energy as can from U238. Makes a great breeder reactor as the Hanford site proves but also makes a terrible mess. Biggest problem is we do not have the metallurgy to contain the Molten Salts adequately.
Not as potentially probable as the Greenies want to see.

A field of 40 4.2 mw wind turbines cannot carry the same load power factor as a Single 160mw generator, ANY one of the Single generators so much as twitches it will trip, the next event is a systemic trip of ALL the remaining generators, they are "Load Following" not Load Leading.
KEY Wording: SUPPLEMENTAL.

Dave............ i want to see them replace LABADIE !!
Labadie Power Station is a 2,389.4-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station operated by Union Electric Company near Labadie, Missouri. Edited by steve(ill) - 10 Feb 2021 at 12:52pm |

Unit 3 is slated to shut down 2022, then Unit four as the boilers are destroyed by burning Low Sulphur PRB Coal(More Dirt than Coal), is actually Brown not Black and 2/3 the BTU of Hard IL Coal. So regardless, Labadie is closing, last unit went online in 72 where due to retire ALL by 2025, last Sioux Unit went online 67, total closure slated for 2023, Meramec is closing S of STL down to CTGs on the site(Need NO permanent large levels of manpower), then Rush Island down by Arnold, last unit finished in 82, due for retirement in 2025.
Comment by Management not long ago, still rings out as CRAZY: "We saw the ENRON Fiasco, know what they did Wrong and can do as they did just Better", the company wants OUT of Generation, wants to Buy and resell power, NOT make it.

This is the Turbine Hall at Callaway. ONE 1 million 200,000 Shaft Horsepower Turbine pushing a 1260mw (PER HOUR) Generator.
One High Pressure turbine seeing 1000psi steam at 545 degrees, the exhaust of which feeds to three Low pressure turbines seeing 250psi steam at 285 superheat degrees that then goes into the condenser to be returned to water to be made steam again. All the turbines are coupled inline physically each LP rotor weighs 150+tons, the HP weighs 98 tons the Generator rotor weighs 160 tons. The generator can be Load Leading unlike Wind Turbines. As can Labadie or Sioux or any other large MW Delivery power station. |

The other issue with Wind power, you get to a level of heat in the generators where that has to be removed, generally around 100-150mw, the ONLY functional coolant is Hydrogen in Pure Form no Oxygen in that gas inside the generator, hard to feed that 300 feet UP to a nacelle and keep it at a purity level while cooling it effectively. Small generators are OK for SUPPLEMENTAL but not for Load Capacity.

Somehow the placing of videos seems to have changed so posted the site to see if that works - first ones I posted came through but then ?

This is the Generator Rotating element.
160 tons The mass of it sustained generator function as severe loads were added on grid as Steel Furnaces, Aluminum Smelters or other High End loads.
