 Topic: AC 170 Lift Arms

How do I stop my AC 170 rear lift arms from constantly going up? When I start the tractor, they rise up and I can only lower them when I shut the tractor off. Any help with adjustment how-to’s would be great!

All those linkages under the console need to move freely buy hand - not using the lever an knob on top. More specifically the pivot points. I think there are 3 of them. Chances are at least one of them is rusted solid. Even if one is rusted up, you will have problems. Take them all apart, clean up and put back together with anti seize. While you are there, make sure the valve on the traction booster is not stuck. I have only had that on one tractor. On all the others, it was the linkage causing the problems.

Standing at the rear of the tractor, look at the rear of the hydraulic valve stack. On the section closest to the right fender you'll see an acorn nut and above it a short aluminum cover cap with 2 allen head screws. With the engine OFF and BOTH rear hydraulic levers 100% pushed FORWARD, remove the 2 allen screws, and then the aluminum cover cap and spring. Now, take a hammer and punch and gently drive the spool ahead until the snap ring bottoms out. Reassemble the spring/aluminum cap and 2 screws. Start engine and see if problem is solved. Linkage on the front side of that spool may have been holding it "IN" (rearward) causing the hydraulic system to slowly raise the hitch. BOTH rear hydraulic levers must be FORWARD or the hitch will raise up and that is what should happen.

I just look underneath while moving the two rear levers and watch which valve doesn't move. I then take a long punch and reach in there and give it a tap and usually it snaps back and works like it should. Simple things first!
