Last thing left to do on recently deceased neighbors farm is get the 180 gas out of the middle of the field where he left it last summer. Got the tractor to start but won't move. PTO works and hydraulics too. Where do I start? Doesn't matter if pd is in low or high.

Do you have steering?
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

You can wash the dirt off the body but you can’t wash the farmer out of the heart and soul

As Joe(OH) mentioned, check to see if you have steering. May have to work the steering back and forth to get it bled. I did run across a person who did not know about having to engage the power director and thought his tractor had a drive line problem.

Hmmmm...

Well, the reason why it won't move, is likely because the chain going to the tractor in front isn't connected and pulled tight enough.  Keep the engine running, so you have steering, and once that tractor up front moves far enough for the chain to tighten up, steer carefully, and stay close behind, and of course, make sure the brakes work before you get to the hill... Wink

First and foremost, tractors that roll, get pulled into the shop, as that's where it's easiest to troubleshoot and repair 'em... Tongue

I thought that answer was funny. My task is to get it out of the field and under cover. Mack was correct, the little bit of hydraulic fluid that was left was mostly water. Drained it out, filled her back up, fiddled with it for an hour and got it under cover. Hopefully there will be a sale. Didn't mention it has a narrow front end

Please count me in on knowing how and when it will be sold.  Like I need another project, but a 180 NF would be one I would make time for.

I will post it here. I hope she has a sale. Home place is a hoarders paradise. Must have 100 pieces of tractors and heavy construction equipment. I afraid she won't have a sale because it might stop her welfare checks

My suggestion was neither a joke, nor an insult, it was experience.

IF it stopped in the field, and was low enough on hydraulic fluid to stop there, and not move...

WHY???

What caused it to loose hydraulic fluid to that level THERE, and if so, why did it not get corrected and driven back to the shed?

Machines don't just 'lose' hydraulic fluid or engine oil- it goes somewhere, and it goes for a reason.

When a machine becomes stranded in a field, and you're not well-advised as to circumstance leading up TO the failure, trying to get it going to limp itself home can cause more damage in a hurry.  Wiser to get it back to the shop for a thorough exam.
