I am trying to rebuild a marvel schubler carb on a D-15 series 2 and the small seat in the bottom of the bowl will NOT come out. I am looking for ideas on how to remove that seat, I have a kit to rebuild it and that is the last obstacle in the process.

Might be one of those 'leave well enough alone' situations. Assuming the seat is slotted, you'll need a PERFECT fitting screwdriver. test and modify a screwdriver for a firm EXACT fit, both width AND vertical side walls !!! Then use 50/50 ATF/acetone and soak carb for 1-2-3 days, maybe preheat the seat area(very warm. not 'flashpoint hot' !!. Securely put carb in big ,steady vice.. tight not Tight... Attach vicegrips TIGHTLY to the special screwdriver just above the top of the carb Put good downforce on screwdriver with right hand, use left hand to 'jerk' the vicegrips fast, about 90*. if, IF it move, add more 50/50 mix, relax take a break, then slowly go 1/2 turn out, 1/4 turn in, repeat a zillion times, and you've won. This is truly a ONE CHANCE event...you NEED patience, the correct tools and technique to suceed....if you don't have all 3.....sigh..you'll need another carb body. |

I haven't tried it myself yet, but have seen some postings of boiling the body in water for a time having success in freeing jets/brass parts in a carb.
