Our friends Kaye and Stephen Richards live near Swifts Creek in Victoria Australia. They also have a place at Lakes Entrance on the 90 mile beech. They are in the fire zone and the Alpine road south of them has been closed due to fires. Stephen is the former fire chief and still involved. You will remember some articles Kaye wrote in the OAN. We met them at the GOTO in 2017 and then stayed with them at their homes in Australia in 2018. They returned the visit and stayed with us last summer and attended the GOTO in Forest. You can go on the link and find Swifts Creek by enlarging the map. This site is the official site for the state and is always being updated. It's real to me because we've been there and drove the roads. Its been a few days since I've had an email but hope they are still safe.

Prayers for everyone in Australia affected by the fires. A raging forest or brush fire is probably one of the most devastating things there is.

I pray for all Australians to come through this tragedy safe and sound. I know it's hard to replace any Orange down there, but better to lose that than ones own life. God watch over you all.
I have a cousin that moved down there back in the 70s. I don't remember where she said she ended up, but she is / was a school teacher. I haven't been in touch with her in at least 25 years. Her brother just died and we're going to have a memorial for him this summer and I expect she will be home for that. Be safe Nancy and God speed |

Heard from our friends this morning. They are on high alert ready to defend their home. In the town 12 miles north of them, 50-60 people were evacuated by army helicopter. This

I have a nephew with his family on a large ranch in NSW, but fortunately they are about 300 miles from the fires and not much bush around them. The small amount that was there was burned off last October as a preventative measure.

It has been an in credible fire season here, where I am is some distance from the fires, around 100 miles. Kaye and Stephen are right in the middle of it all with fire fronts coming from multiple directions. The big positive is a lot of lessons were learnt a few years ago during our Black Saturday fires with improved communication and evacuation advice given very early on. Fingers are crossed that everyone stays safe and we get some much needed rain as the fires are in very remote areas and could be going for several weeks yet. The drought conditions have certainly been a major factor in the spread and severity of these fires.
