Is a carb off a Gleaner E the same as a D-17?
What is the recommended setting of the needle valve? How many turns from bottomed out in the seat should it be backed out to roughly start with?

olivetroad,
My guess would be a turn and a half? That seems about the norm. We will see what the experts say. I should know this, but it may have slipped out of my old head or never got shoved in there.

Throttle shaft is different. Set the float to where it is parallel with top surface of carburetor. MACK

"needle valve" is too broad a term: There is the needle valve that the float moves up and down, the needle adjustment for idle air/fuel mixture, also the needle adjustment for high idle gas/air mixture. Adjust the float like MACK said, the low idle screw on top of carb should be turned out 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn off the seat. (Out means more air) The high idle needle adjustment screw likes to be 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 turns out from the seat. (out means more gas)
