 Topic: Help With Allis Chalmers EB

Hi all, Today I picked up a Allis Chalmers EB  I don't really know much about Allis Chalmers tractors, so I will need some advice. Where do I find the serial number? This tractor has no brakes, there is only one brake band. I would eventually like to restore this tractor, This is an ex boat tractor hence all the rust  What do you recommend for removal of the rust? I don't have a sand blaster. Hi here a little info for you After the second world war Allis Chalmers operated factories in the
United Kingdom at Totton (to 1949) in Totton Hampshire and Essendine in
Rutland. Formerly the Minneapolis-Moline factory.
- Model EB
(1950-1955) British built model B with a straight front axle. EB serial
numbers from Essendine works began at EB-4001. Some 2000 were assembled
at the Totton, Southampton facility between 1947/9 from imported CKD
kits but using US serial numbers locally stamped with an additional E
prefix. Theoretically there may be duplication of serial numbers with
later English production tractors.

Sam, your Tractor # is there in your photo album. You've got yourself quite the rust removal job ahead, many ways of removing rust, each with its pros and cons of time, effort, quality, and cost. Electrolysis, abrasion, and chemical, OR nothing at all. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your Allis and new found friends.

A decent fab shop can make the new front axle assy. channel. May be far cheaper than sourcing a newto you replacement as I had done on a D12. That way you can cut around the good parts like spindles vs. forcing them apart, clean em' up and hopefully re-use them as that axle assy. is toast.

Sam, Welcome to the forum! Awesome looking EB. Guess I learned something new today. Rear tires look almost new. Unique tread design! Good pictures in your Album. I use several rust removal process as mentioned. But I use electrolysis on a lot of things. Of course sanding grinding wire brushing, and sandblasting all have a place too! many of the Bs had rear hubs that mounted on the shaft spline. Yours actually is the optional 5 bolt flange mount... and your "HUBS" are mounted backward and the tires are mounted outboard as far as possible to make the tractor extra wide... You can make much narrower if you want , or any width in between.

I never knew there was an EB until now. Thank you and a nice little history find.
Now go check out the B's on Tractor House. Is that one with rear steel wheels? And if you want to buy me the one in Pennsylvania for my Christmas present, that will be fine.

That’s a very cool AC!!! Love the license plate and is the battery box set in backwards from our US counterparts or is that my eyes tricking me?And it looks to be dual fuel I assume at one point with the aux tank cutout in the hood.Very cool indeed and welcome!

Sam- Congratulations on finding a great little tractor! I have a '38 hand-start B, and a '48 B that is amazingly simillar to yours, except it has a non-adjustable curved front axle.
Just so you know, rust was a standard feature on all antique tractors... but beware- if you remove it, you'll void the factory warranty...

Hi all! Thanks for all the help and info! We have started pulling it apart - pulled the distributor cap off the magneto, and found that the rotor was extremely rusty on the conductive end, so cleaned the rust off with some 600 sandpaper, and it ran beautifully! Before it barely was running on 2 cylinders, and you could hardly start off in 1st! Now I can start off in 3rd! I have cleaned up the front axle a bit to see how it was, not much holding it together! The only thing holding me up now is the fuel tank fell off Allis when I was driving and snapped the pipe going to the fuel bowl. Hi Team,
just got a hold of my Allis Chalmers B model and it has a serial number of EB6027, so according to the knowledge here it would be an English Variant made in 1951.
Now to figure out what the engine serial number means, it says 715130!

Sorry, What is a pan seat?
If you are talking about the seat where you sit, it has a normal single seat mounted on a U shaped piece of spring steel and a short shock absorber under it. It is not a timber bench seat

Hi yes it sounds like you have the pan seat the number 715130 is the casting number the engine serial number is on the engine just below the fule tap where the engine bolts up to the bell houseing it will start with CE or BC but should be CE unless it is fitted with a P3 perkins diesel which some of the English variant are .

ok, fund the engine number with a bit of degreasing. It is not on the flat part of the engine block, but on the 1” wide ridge that bolts to the gearbox.
Anyway, my numbers are CE 3461 K.
Googling furiously to see what this means
