Folks,
I had a call from MDWilliams on Saturday and said he was on his way to my place with his new to him D19! I was in a maple event but was not going to miss this chance to meet a fellow Allis Chalmers collector and friend here on the forum!
So these Williams folks are serious about there big Orange tractors! This one popped up on the forum about a week ago. I looked at it and thought, man it looks pretty nice, and you dont see a lot D19's in the classifieds! The Williams family wasted no time in heading for Northwestern Ohio to secure the nice D19, with great looking rubber too! Then they headed east across the top end of Ohio to stop by our Sugar-house in North West Pennsuylvania to pick up some maple products and talk tractors for a little while!

Weather was cold and the big orange tractor looked good against the skift of fresh snow!

Mike and their D19:

They headed the big Dodge south towards North Carolina (oops):) and some much needed rest!

Sure was a treat to meet Mike, his Dad, and Mom!

Regards,
 Chris

One of the best things about forums like this aside from learning,discussions,buying/selling and online friendships are the the chance of friendships that can be made in person no matter how far apart over the love of the same thing. While I’m on another forum for Gretsch Guitars and while some musicians can be finicky folk my family at the Gretsch forum are great as the same as what I’ve experienced here.Steve in Conn (thanks for the WC),to Greg in Napoleon Oh who had this fine D19 and Chris way up in the far north west reaches of PA.So coming from sunny skies and fair weather here in NC to travel to the cold snow flurry north in a quest for a D19 that’s been high on the list I had to make a hot run back across OH into PA to meet Chris and his hospitality to me and my family was spectacular and honestly going north looking/buying tractors has become increasingly easy with finding sweet tea in more and more restaurants 😁
As for the D19 it is in really good shape...there are a few minor things I’ll square away and fix but mostly just a clean up and a wash for now and enjoy....this place is great, just saying!

That is a fine looking 19. I would love to stop at the sugar-shack some day and talk tractors, (and cub-cadets). Only three states stand in the way of it!

Mike,
I like that shot of the D19! They are just such a beefy looking tractor! Keep us informed as you get into the details of the 19. Is there a plan to have it looking like the 17?
Glad you had a safe trip home!
I think I can smell the ribs grilling, coated with some maple BBQ sauce.:)

Good looking tractor!  I always liked the D19. Don't see many around this area, although my neighbor a few miles north has a very nice on that has been in the family since new.  It's coming to my shop soon for a valve job as it has a bit of a miss and we've narrowed it down to a slightly burned exhaust valve.

Thanks y’all..really appreciate it!! It really is a solid and good running tractor.
@Chris...as of right now I don’t think we’re going to do a rebuild like we did with the D17...I mean it just looks & runs too good to mess with at least right now....doesn’t mean dad won’t change his mind next winter after we’re done with the 45😁.
But for now....
1.Will be a good cleaning along with the tires getting a used motor oil bath.
2.Fuel gauge gasket and fuel pump gasket.
3.Change all fluids
4.New control lever (rubber knobs)
5.New muffler and new rear rim ( already bought)
6.See if I can find one D17/19 headlight
Pretty much that’s it just enjoy....or that’s the plan anyway.
And forgot....also see if I can find a good used 3 or 4 rib front Goodyear so both fronts are matching.

Doug you are absolutely right especially on a tractor this big, even Chris asked about it.I had told dad before left we needed to use the chains on this monster and we had the ratchets in the trailer tool box but we both forgot the chains.

i'm assuming the back tires are 18.4-34. What size are the front tires? The rubber on your tractor makes it look like a bad boy.Smile

Yessir, the rears are 18.4-34 and fronts are 10.0-16 SL Goodyear’s ...albeit a 4 rib on one side and 3 rib on the other both in good shape but that’s one thing I’m trying to hunt down is another GY in good shape either 3 or 4 rib so the fronts will match. And you’re right again...the big fronts make it look like it has a puffy chest.

Somewhere I learned that oil is not good for rubber tires.

Thanks guys, appreciate. Well ya gotta be careful about what ya say on the interwebs for disclaimer reasons but as I explained to David I’ll try and reiterate again.
But it’s something farmers down here in the Sandhills of NC have done for as long as I can remember....not religiously but it happens. After changing the oil in the tractors folks would wipe a little of the used oil on the sidewalls and tread of the tires just as a coating from our desert like sandy soil, not that it’d last but just a light wipe will dry in about 12-24 hrs. While cotton and tobacco thrive here our sand and clay fields chew up tires and in a small way helps a little with cracking....maybe.We’ve never done it but I’ve got some guys around me that have even used the black window sealant from glass companies for some pretty bad splits. I work for Goodyear Tire @ the Fayetteville NC plant in the mold shop ,changing the molds in the presses and prep new molds that come in so I work back and forth with our DOT & XRay Lab. And while it’s pretty common knowledge that manufacturers don’t recommend putting oil on tires(however trans oil can be ok from our MSDS )still not recommended from a manufacturer to consumer standpoint for materials separation. That said...in the 26 yrs I’ve been with Kelly Springfield /Goodyear from our DOT test points I’ve never seen where a cured tire has failed from any of our contamination tests from external oils.Without giving away recipes there are certain amounts of syn & nat rubbers with petroleum within and naturally when rubbers dry it’s the outer layers that suffer and so just wiping oil on the outer surface sorta just feeds the rubber again. And truthfully our manufacturing process ,so far as materials may be different than that of what’s used in the AG field are produced but I’ve never seen adverse effects either. Now again...not recommended for radial hwy passenger tires per manufacturers but it’s just something that’s been done down here on ag tires for years.Again, not telling anyone to wipe oil on their tires...just something we’ve done, that’s all and nothing more.

MD,
Nice documentation, with some good suggestions, and recommendations! I knew there was something else we shared in common! I also worked in the rubber industry for 40 years as a drafter, designer, process engineer, tool engineer, and Mfg engineer. Not in tires but in shock and vibration applications. Yes some applications for big Ag tractors. Ahhh yes, the smell of rubber being mixed and vulcanized!:)
Be careful those molds are big and heavy!

Nice!!!!! You were on the fancy end of the rubber manufacturing !!😁And you know it takes me about a good week being out of the plant to get that smell out of my head.Dad retired about 4years ago after working in our plant for 46 yrs and he still smells tires cooking in the presses.Another note, most if not all (particular GY,FS/BS,Mich) strongly recommend not using ANY man made products on their tires other than soapy water, including foams & bleach cleaners, including waxes and practically every tire shine under the sun.

A D19 gas is a nice comfortable, quiet tractor to run. Unless equipped with front pump, the hydraulics are weak but over all my D19 has been as reliable as any tractor.
