Alright boys and girls, I have a late model 190xt III that has been having issues regarding the hydraulic system. The tractor came to a stand still the other day. No power steering or power director, so I removed the valve in the pump and cleaned it and reinstalled. Worked for a short time until i used the remotes and then promptly stopped again. Removed hydraulic filter to find black plastic filings plugging the filter. I'm guessing my pump is shelling out or am I missing something? Tractor operates perfect until you start using remotes or 3pt. Any ideas what should be my next step?

you would think if it was the pump there would be some NOISE ? ..... all the cylinders work OK ? None settling down like a backup ring broke up and went thru system ?
I would drain the oil and look closer... Maybe run thru a strainer and reinstall or change out and test again... with new filter.

What does a failing pump sound like? High pitched squeal? At higher rpms my fan belt squeals or I assume it's the fan belt. I will check for noise tomorrow. After cleaning the valve my steering was the best it's been in years. Amazing what a little maintenance does.

If it is plastic fillings, It's probably not from the pump. Any pump wear parts would be brass or steel. It sounds like contamination from the sump or from a deteriorating suction hose. Pull the sump screen and take a look for contamination. It could from a deteriorating cylinder seal or from something connected to the remotes. |

If I pull the sump pan will I have to buy a new seal or will rtv gasket work? I've never in the 25 years of owning that tractor have needed to open the screen up.

When you remove it ,clean the entire contact area of the sump and the sump itself. Any oil left here will prevent proper sealing. I left mine off for 2 days to make all oil had drained out. The first time I used some RTV on both sides of the gasket. After a week it began to leak. Checked the torque on each bolt and ended up tightening a few bolts that needed it. Not sure if the gasket compressed or what happened. Ordered a new gasket and used Indian head gasket sealer. Got much better results that time. Stayed leak proof for 2 years until recently. I despise leaks, so I’m not sure what I will try this time. The XT gets quite a bit of work and she is 51 years old. Shouldn’t complain too much I guess.

There is a gasket for the sump as well as the seals for the suction and return tubes.

You must have a hydraulic cylinder from an implement that has contaminated your filter and hydraulic system.
