Remove engine and crank and reseal is one option. But usually other things happen when your in there! I know this wasn't what you wanted to hear. Not sure of any quick fixes? The experts will be along soon.
Regards, Chris

How about a bit more about the engine, is it gas or diesel? Which series D17?

If it has a rubber seal , Lucas makes good stuff, also brake fluid will make rubber seals swell,, just depends on your choice to get by or a tear down

Take it apart and replace it. Anything else is just a temporary band aid.

Don't cut ends of seals off. Glue seals in their grooves. Use the F gaskets that comes with pan gasket. Be sure bearings have proper clearance. Oil the seals before installing crank and main caps. Put some sealant on top aluminum seal retainer before bolting it to block. MACK

My folks had a dodge dakota that decided to start leaking badly all of a sudden. As a desperation move, they used Blue Devil rear main sealer. Got it at an auto parts store locally, dumped it in and never had any more trouble with it. Could have been a fluke, but might be worth a shot?
