Yes a crazy price, but there is only 1 prototype in the world and someone owns it. Pretty awesome. So glad it has survived and in such good shape.

If the Polk 220 fwd was a true test farm tractor it would have Rockwell front axle serial # 0002. The first test farm 220 fwd has axle #0001 and lives in western NY.

Any type of documentation or any verification from anyone at Allis Chalmers from that time period . Or all speculation . Just asking .

Got to give the deer credit for their record keeping. Disappointing that the Allis folks didn't see the need to do this. Thanks Calvin for the research you do for us Allis folks. Regardless that is a sweet 220.

From what II know, the AC folks did see the need to keep good records and did keep them - unfortunately Deutz did not, and much of it literally ended up in the dumpster. Deere definitely deserves credit for their archives though!

The video from the auction claims that #1001 and #1002 were both 2wd prototypes and this tractor #1003 was the only FWA prototype with #1004 being the first production tractor for market.

The 220 fwd that has front axle #1 actually does not have a serial number. It's obvious by the design of the rear end casting that A-C planned for the 220 to be available in a FWD version. It is also impossible to convert a 220 2wd into a FWD. I have one of each.
