Good friends of ours and ex-co-worker of mine are snowbirds, have a small home for a base here in MO, just 1200 sf as a storage bin basically, have a 40' gooseneck behind a Dodge ton, live in AZ and NM southern line going park to park during 2-3 mos. of winter, summers they come home and do special trips back east or up north. Three year old Dodge has NEVER seen Snow!!

Wife and I are researching doing just this. But probably not until next winter. Still have a few cows until next fall. Closing on a new camper today that is spacious enough to "live in" for longer than a couple weeks. Seems like a lot of money but you can't take it with you! Anyway, anywhere from Florida to California not far inland from the coast there are winter RV parks plus a bunch of places available out west to camp on public land without any hookups. Just Google winter RV camping and you'll find tons of information. We're pretty much concentrating on the Texas Hill Country area and plan to make a trip south this summer to check it out.

You're the only crazy fella that would go farther north, rather than south, for the winter. Even the geese got more sense than to do that. Darrel |

A friend sold his house and bought a ton single wheel Dodge and a four season trailer and does that. He's on his second year and I haven't heard any regrets. He comes back to this area, SE MI, in the summer time. and spends winter in FL. He works with leather so he has a hobby to keep him busy. I helped him put his workbench and tools in the trailer. Quite the job, but he has it organized now so it is more efficient.

We like the hill country, lots of things to do. We like Fredricburg or Kerrville area. Was going to be there for three and months, but wife’s cousins in Fort Hood have a house that is vacant and us stay there

We have a lot in a resident owned park in Zephyrhills, Florida. We spend the winter in a class C motor home.

Shameless the only time gonna go to N. D. Is in July and its iffy then. After putting a million miles on trucks here, 1/3 of it in the winter, seemed like longer, I absoluty detest snow and snowy roads. In all the years I owned them fuel/LP trucks, there might have been 1 Christmas day that I wasn't called out, same with new years. Might a took one drink of strong stuff on new years night, couldn't take more cause I knew sooner than later the darn phone was gonna ring. Thanks guys this is a great start.

We went to arizona last winter for the first time. we knew nothing about where to stay or what to do. Before we get started; beware that febuary is the busiest month. step kids are in southern phoenix area but they knew nothing about snowbirding. phoenix area RV parks are high priced for my budget. I had met a guy who told me to try wellton az. 20miles east of yuma on interstate 8. I luckily found a park model (400+ square foot furnished trailer house, usually 1 bedroom) in an RV park of craigslist. turned out to be across the street from the guy who told me about wellton. price was very fair. found out later to just stop at RV parks and find out if anything is for rent. ours was $900 a month for everything except internet. i could proly get it for $750-800 now that i'm antiquated around. small farming community with great grocery store and 10+places to eat including a 'jack in the box'. medical center there and Yuma is 20miles down the road with 5 walmarts and every service known to man. RV parks have ton's of things to do and a heated swimming pool.
we decided to wander up to bullhead city but got there 2 days early. had to stay in casino till march 1 and then lots of places to stay. we got a small furnished apt on colorado river for $800 and they cleaned every 7th day; including great wifi. this will give u some idea on costs. lake havasu city is nice but expensive. quartzsite is for boondockers and is kind of a dump. there are other places that i've checked out. send me a message if u wanna know more!

Hmmmmm ............. I have 2 places with houses that need more work than(money) I want to spend for what rent would be for the trash that wants to rent. But good AC people with there own bed???? My daughter camped at the one for 6 months had a pipe into the septic tank, water, and electric hook ups. I am always behind in handyman projects
![]() Not as warm as Florida or southern Californy. But the BIG GOLIATH pretty storm back in 94 was 6 inches and less for 36 hours and it was gone again. People that moved from Pennsylvania that summer had just got settled in and we had that snow. Lucky I wasn't friends until years latter cause she cussed everybody she saw for being lyres cause she moved to have no more snow, an we had 6 inches. The last time we talked both of use in the hospital back in 16,and she laughed an that was the last snow she had to be in. Most of the snowbirds go to far south Texas known as 'The Valley' (short for Rio Grande valley). They have everything from trailer parks to communities of real homes especially for retirees. Probably tens of thousands of people spend the winter there. Even some from elsewhere in Texas. Winter weather is virtually non-existent there.

Layne, I really appreciated the information you posted concerning the Texas Hill Country. The reason we were looking to maybe winter there versus the coast was hopefully a little less hectic style of environment and not having wall to wall people. Being from small town rural southeast Nebraska, I'm not sure how comfortable we would be for more than a week or so being in really tight quarters. A friend of mine has folks that go to Rockfort, Texas (believe that's the town he said) and he stated that they enjoy it there as they can go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico which is across the street from where they park their RV. But he also said they had to get used to the neighbors on each side being 10 feet away. As we don't plan on being "snowbirds" until about a year from now, we have some time to explore, research and prepare hopefully. |

Research is always good! But feet on the ground teaches lessons faster! just pencil in a couple mistakes that will cost u some cash! I put $500 in that fund when we left; i think we only burned thru about $350. but it is a vacation!

You guys going to Texas for the first time, bee aware those darn killer bees have moved into a lot of places there. I've got a special bee suit to deal with them. I'm glad I've never had to use it. Its a pain in the butt to put on. If I decides on Texas, I'll probably take it with me. Again Thanks guys.

lots of places for sale at that price. The yearly lot rent is what you need to check. The one we stayed at last year, the guy wanted $9000. One down the street from it sold for $5500 while we were there.

Lots of folks feel that way and the good old powers that be can make it a pain in the tuckus to do it for a lot of us. There's a permanent address issue (lots of states do not except mail box or a service place as permanent address) for license's ect. Medical insurance coverage ect. Lots of thing to consider, and I wouldn't call you old fashioned but maybe just
I've got a 26' C with a 440 I call The Fort Forty Dodge Lodge.
