I'm looking at a JD 535 round baler. They seem pretty simple to run for an old fart. Any opinions? The one I'm looking at is twine only and has pick-up gauge wheels and hay gathering wheels. Paint is excellent and sheet metal strait as they come. I can get it for $6,500.00 which seems to be fair. It has a green pick-up which I think is newer than yellow pick-up. Thanks for any opinions!!!!

They were the best in the day...belts, bearings, chains, pick up teeth and a shot of grease are normal maintenance - should allow them to run for 50 000 bales.
I know, I have one. Yes, the price seems right. If you have more questions, just ask. |

Thanks for your reply Ron. I do have one question and that is can you eject the bale with PTO running? A neighbor who used to have one said you can but it might scuff up the bale a little.

Dad has the slightly older 530 and seems to love his. Although he did come from a closed throat international baler with that giant smooth belt on the floor. That thing was garbage.
His 530 would keep pace with my hesston 560 and that thing would bale nearly as fast as the 190xt could drag her in third high depending on how heavy the windows were. |

After the twine is put on, I idle the tractor down to 14-1500 rpm when ejecting the bale. The pto stays running.
It just slows things down so there isn't as much of jolt when the bale ejects. The only times the bale is scuffed is when you eject a bale uphill. Then the push bar has to work too hard to move the bale out of the way so you can close the door (gate). Edited by Ron(AB) - 12 Dec 2018 at 11:35pm |
