    Posted: 16 Aug 2018 at 10:02am
Can anyone explain simply how to remove the rear wheels with weights (700's) off my 65' 190xt?  There is a hub with 3 big bolts which looks like its wedged in around the axle somehow..  These tires/wheels are big and look extreemly heavy so I want to know what I am doing so as to not get hurt or tear things up..  thanks.

If they are the same as my 200, I ended up making my own 3/4" coarse thread grade 8 bolts with a 5/8" grade 8 bolt (without head) welded to it. I don't have the dimensions in front of me but I've seen similar ones pictured on the site before. They are a pain, took me two weeks of spraying WD- 40 and hammering around the hub before they would move. Hope this helps

If you dont have the bolts get some good normal grade 8 bolts and cover the hole in the hub with 1/4 in pieces of steel and just run the bolts against the plates. Be sure to tighten each one in a pattern to keep the tension uniform.

You could push a 1/4" core of that plate into the threaded hole boogering up the threads. Did that on my D19, then I bought the right bolts. Still was a bear but I have learned a lot since then.

Get the pusher bolts by hook or by crook. You could have a machine shop make them from non Chinese grade 8 bolts, 3/4" NC thread and machined down to 5/8"? solid peg to fit into hole of cast wheel. I could get exact measurements if need be.

Then evenly torque them up but goooood and if they don't budge the wheel then take a rosebud torch and heat the wheel center around the wedge and give each bolt a nudge now and then. Probably get by heating without even burning the paint. If that doesn't do it then do as suggested with a 16# sledgehammer hit squarely and very hard on the flat end of the axle.

I bet you won't need to go to the sledgehammer.

Follow the instructions above.  Don't try to rush things.  The hub will probably have trouble sliding off the axle.  Whatever you do, do not pry apart the slot that is in the hub - you can break it in 2.  To slide the hub off, we sanded the axle so it was smoother, then heated the hub with a propane torch, but it still took a lot of hammering!  The best way to handle the wheel center is with a cherry picker.  They are heavy!

Indeed, same with just using the pusher bolts to begin with.

A big puller works well to remove the wedge hub along with a big hammer but you still need to sand the axle smooth.

As bad as they can be to move, a stuck wheel on a 4020 is way way worse. And a loose wheel on an IH will cost you dollars.
