I saw in a farm invention news paper that a guy mounted an electric power steering unit from a Saturn Veu in an IH. I ordered on off of ebay for $60.00. Has anyone here tried this? I'm planning on installing it on my WD45.

I read the article, in Farm Show Magazine, sounds Do-able at least on the farmall. Doon't know how much plumbing and shaft work, on an AC...

Is it shaft in and shaft out? That should work. Plan on using heavy wire when you connect it. At 12 volts it would need a fair amount of amps to develop the needed torque.

Yeah it is shaft in and shaft out. I plan on powering it with a relay in line to handle the load.

The control box itself may have a relay. At the very least you'd want to connect the heavy feed directly to the battery and install a key switch for the controller, if you don't already have one.

top coupler could be steering wheel spliney thing, btm one from top of shaft going to rack.
you do need the 'control computer' box and all wiring.
I'm wondering how much poer it needs(amps) ?
A smart guy might be able to make a 'retrokit'....

I plan on machining something when I get the unit and see what I have to work with.

I’d be more inclined to build a new shaft instead of cutting a factory original.

Hey Rick,,I'm gonna be followin your thread on this as I looked into this very same set-up for my D14 on another forum. The general consensus was that the weight of the tractor far exceeded the capability of the pump and the unit required lots of amps to get er done so I kinda looked elsewhere. Keep us posted with lots of pics on your project,,,there is LOTS of interest on thet,,,

It won't cost a fortune to try it if you can snag one at a junk yard. Be sure to get both the unit and the control box. Make note of how it was wired. I see another one on E-bay for $178. This includes the control box with interconnecting cables.

Click on above. You'll need one of these controllers. I put one in my street rod. Works great. Make sure all power to controller and the EPS motor is off when vehicle is shut off.

You can't use the original vehicle control box because it is tied into the traction control system, Engine Control Module (computer), and electronic speedometer. Believe me I tried it. It doesn't work.

Thanks for the link. I ordered the controller today. I saw a YouTube video where a guy installed one of these on his lawnmower using this controller. Thinking about the weight comparison of the Saturn vs the wd45 and I don't think there would be that much difference. The Saturn has both the engine and the transmission weight on the front end.

Terry, I don't have a unit installed yet, so don't have all the answers. I'm going with a Nissan Versa unit because it doesn't need the extra ebay control box like the Saturn. yeesh, went to epowersteering.com and 1000 Canucks for a kit! NO info on what the 'adjustment pot' is for,NO info at all....the BIG issue I have is the 50/60 AMP fuse. That means you'll need to upgrade to a 100A alternator and a BF Battery ! $$$ !!!
I would not install into a tractor with loader as you'll be using a LOT of power all the time. The power needed is based upon turning times + weight, both BIG numbers on a loader/tractor.Power is volts x amps, so a LOT of amps as volts is 12.
I'd like to see some REAL numbers. ES for a street rod driven on paved streets is a LOT less of a load than tractor in the field !
As reported, I'd be making a new shaft NOT cutting the original, that way you can go back to stock quickly.
The 'tech' inside the black boxes is simple(for me) but everything needs to be SEALED( the adj pot isn't).Kinda dusty where tractors roam....
