Need help on L3, the reel will not maintain constant speed. Runs and as soon as you start cutting it will stop as if it doesn’t have any power. Have power both ways fast and slow but it wont stay where I put it. I might add it just started this was working ok. My shop manual mentions a torque limiter but I did not see one anywhere

ypu have a piece of trash in the one way check valve. take it apart and clean it. It is the square brass looking valve in the 'loop' line . It allows the reel to idle down when the pump stops.

It never ceases to amaze me how this certain group of guys (tbran, Dr Allis, Mack, etc.) always know the problem and solution to anything! I only hope someday I will know 1/2 as much as them!

tbran I don't see the check valve in the AGCO parts book. I have a 318 grain head, serial # LMF520371-83. Thanks for your help

Looking for the check valve, I found this for the "torque limiter" (relief valve) which may do both functions on the reel of limiting torque and the "overrunning".  Could be like what Tbran said with a piece of junk in this, or maybe the screw backed off and lowered the relief pressure.  Would be #1 in the picture.

wayneIA I don’t have a torque limiter or a check valve that I can find. I did find out what the problem was (this could only happen to me) the weld had broken on the tube that drives the reel. It was rubbing just enough that it would turn till you tried to cut beans. Needless to say the last 2 days haven’t been very good would like to thank everyone for all ideas as I didn’t know where to start looking

You are correct, I was thinking of the later series heads which have the valve mentioned. We have had several fractures as you experienced. Reel end wrap with crop or weeds really put a strain on the drive tube.

tbran, I noticed your computer has the same problem as mine. The p's and o's keep getting mixed up. Wife says it's operayor error. Sometimes the y even gets in the way. I told her it couldn't be cause I never have problems with p's and q's. Could you let me know when you find the problem? Don't want to look foreign or anything like that.
