A question for the group.

Adding a Battery Cut off switch. A couple of you sent me great links for this and one for example is "Little Switch".

Do I need to worry about how may amps the switch is rated for? I see some at 300, some at 250 sustained and 650 or 800 amps short bursts. Just curious.

At least 300 minimum, would hang with higher if will fit the space.

JUST INSTALLED A MASTER SWITCH ON MY HD16 A WEEK AGO. I PUT THE SWITCH ON  LIVE SIDE OF BATTERY. WHEN I STARTED TRACTOR SWITCH WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. I PUT THE SWITCH ON GROUND SIDE AND IT WORKS WELL.

Looked at the diagram in the parts manual and you are correct. Switch goes to the positive to ground side. How many amps is your cut off switch rated for? Curious.

If your controlling a starter motor or just a solonoid for the starter motor would be the question as starter could draw up to 1200 AMP or full capacity of batteries 
 In some heavy truck use a separate solonoid is set between starter motor and power supply - this is then controlled by key or cut off so starter motor can't be jumped or power is shut off to starter if it stays engaged

I had no idea ithere could this large of a draw. Many of the cutoff switch's I have found have a sustained 300 to 400 amp draw and a spike of up to 1200 amps.

2 things..
1) go with the highest rated one.. you NEED reliability.
2) it makes NO difference whether the switch is put in the -ve of +ve  line from the battery.

Thank you Jay. That will be my plan. I have 30' of #00 welding cable and am replacing the cables and new batteries. 2 -12volt truck batteries.

to keep the welding cable protected I ran mine through a old garden hose (plastic reinforced 3/4" )  has stood up well and have no worry about the insulation breaking down . Seem welding cables will deteriorate under grease or petroleum  products and heat is other killer .

Sunlight also makes weld cable insulation deteriorate, too, IMHO...

Good one Coke. My plan exactly. I have enough good Rubber 3/4" hose to cover all the wire cable.
